From the fluid of the brakes to that dedicated to the steering, passing through the oil of the automatic change: which are and how to understand when to replace them.
What are the main liquids in our car? And when is the time to change them so that they are always efficient? These are just some of the questions you have to ask when you’re talking about the liquids that characterize any car. From the brake oil to the steering fluid, through that of the automatic gearbox: each of these liquids has its own importance and performs a very precise task, and it is not always easy to understand when you have to put your hand for their replacement. Let’s start with the brake fluid, probably the most popular one. Basically, it is a synthetic compound that has as fundamental peculiarity incompressibility: for this capacity we obtain a force multiplied at the moment of the pedal pressure inside the hydraulic system, and we are therefore sure to apply at the same time to all four jaws a homogeneous friction force. In the engine compartment there is a calibrated tank, which indicates the current level of liquid present in the circuit: the valuable advice offered by Reteriparo, emerging reality in the car repair industry, remind us that the liquid in question is highly corrosive, so in case of topping up or replacement it is always better to always use the safety devices provided or leave it to your mechanic trust, that has the necessary equipment and manual skills, decidedly superior dexterity dictated by experience and professionalism. The manufacturers do not have a standard timing for the change of this liquid.
We then move on to the liquid dedicated to steering, whose presence is necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the steering wheel and the right softness of the latter. If you ever feel that the steering has suddenly hardened, first it is important to take your vehicle manual and with it to verify if the millimeter pan contains sufficient oil for proper operation: often it is not a damage, but only a small loss.
Final kiosk on the automatic gearbox oil, designed to be always viscous at the right point and to continuously wet the gears in rotation. Compared to engine oil the way of use is similar, so the lubrication of the parts, while the way of working physically is very different.
As for the times to be respected for the oil change of the automatic gearbox, the manufacturer always indicates a period of use ranging from 100,000 to 180,000 kilometers, but this could be an incorrect value due to large temperature changes or improper use of the exchange rate itself. In any case, one of the first symptoms of the oil being old is that the automatic gearbox starts to tear.
